AFTER EASTER: Holding On to Hope

by David Morgan, Lawrence County Executive

This past weekend, like many of you, I celebrated Easter with my family, my church, and my community.

And even though the holiday has passed, I’ve found myself lingering in its meaning—reflecting on the deep and steady hope it brings, not just for one Sunday a year, but for every day we live.

As both your County Executive and a

local pastor, I’ve had the unique privilege of seeing the power of resurrection hope in action—not just in pews and prayer circles, but in board meetings, county initiatives, and even crisis situations at 8 Oaks Recovery Center, where we help people rebuild their lives one decision at a time.

Easter reminds us that what seems finished isn’t always final. The resurrection of Jesus Christ isn’t just a moment in history—it’s a promise that speaks into every corner of life. It assures us that our failures don’t have the last word, our sins can be forgiven, and the things we thought were dead—dreams, relationships, purpose—can live again by the grace of God.

That message is personal to me. And I know it’s personal to many of you.
Here in Lawrence County, we are blessed with a strong, faith-filled heritage. It’s woven into our way of life—into how we care for our neighbors, raise our children, and keep pressing forward when things are tough. That kind of heritage doesn’t just happen. It’s a gift, and one we have a responsibility to protect, preserve, and build upon.

Over the Easter weekend, I was reminded again just how much we need hope. Not shallow optimism, but the deep, resurrection-rooted hope that only Christ offers. That hope is what carries a grieving family through loss. It’s what helps a recovering addict take one more step. It’s what allows us, as a county and as individuals, to believe that our best days are still ahead.

As we move forward into the rest of spring, I encourage us all to hold on to that hope. Let’s keep being a community that sees the best in one another, that believes in restoration, and that isn’t afraid to trust God for new life—even in the most unlikely places.

The tomb is still empty. The promise still stands. And for Lawrence County, I believe the future is bright—not because of politics or programs, but because of the grace and truth that Easter reminds us of every year.

May that truth continue to shape how we lead, serve, and love one another.
