POPPY DAY COLLECTIONS AT LOCAL INTERSECTIONS: FRIDAY, MAY 30

National Poppy Day was officially observed on Friday, May 24, 2025, but it’s never too late to honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our country.

Lawrence County Executive David Morgan, joined by Nicki Hartsfield (left) and Dawn Garner (right) from the American Legion Auxiliary #146, recently signed a proclamation recognizing Thursday, May 29 as National Poppy Day in Lawrence County, Tennessee.

The red poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance and sacrifice, worn since World War I to honor those who served and died in defense of our freedoms. First adopted by the American Legion in 1920, and later distributed nationwide beginning in 1924, the poppy continues to represent the cost of liberty.

Today, take a moment to reflect, remember, and wear a poppy in tribute. Poppies are available for purchase, with proceeds directly supporting local veterans.
Let’s show our gratitude—every day is the right day to honor our heroes.
