Special Session June 25, 2024

At their Special Session Tuesday, June 25, Lawrence County Commissioners approved several measures that will have a positive impact on the county’s roads, schools, emergency response, and healthcare. These include:
 
* The purchase of land for a new 12,500-square-foot Lawrence County Health Department between Mahr and Liberty Avenues, bordering Brannon Street. The property, the facility, its equipment, and furnishings are provided through federal and state COVID funds.
 
* A $189,000 contribution for our E-911 system for updated software and equipment.
 
*A $525,936 contribution to Lawrence County Fire Rescue to support the county’s volunteer fire departments.
 
* A renewed lease for Columbia State Community College at Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center.
 
* The county’s 2024-25 budget, which includes no tax increase and maintains a healthy fund balance.
 
* A $20.8 million bond, which will provide $6 million for Lawrence County roads; $12 million for future school construction projects; and capital projects including convenience centers for trash and recyclable disposal, and improvements at several county buildings.
